Ocean vs. Pond Thursday, February 16th, 2018 Dear Families, What an exciting week in kindergarten! This week students learned about animal habitats from our guest speaker, Mrs. Hoffmann, wrote sentences that compared and contrasted, reviewed counting on using tens and ones, role played Rosa Parks’ life, and brought in the season of Lent together by participating in Ash Wednesday. This week was also St. Valentine's day and I heard the room moms did a fabulous job of organizing a fun and festive party of love! Thank you room moms and Ms. Sarah! Unfortunately I was home recovering from a sinus infection on Valentine’s celebration day but I so appreciate all of the wonderful photos the families have sent on the Shutterfly website. The mailboxes you all created from home were all so unique and beautiful I enjoyed seeing all of them! With 108 kindergarten days behind us it’s time to start thinking about first grade. I met up with your future 1st grade teacher, Mrs. Flynn, to consider all of the things an upcoming kinder would need to succeed. We have come up with a list that is attached to this document. If you see that your student has yet to master several of these skills then it’s time to get to work-practice more at home and reach out to me. I want to ensure that each kinder is ready for 1st grade socially and academically. Reminders: Turn in class fund money to the office $40 No cuddle buddies/toys in class (we are growing up!) No School-Monday, February 19th Order Thankful book online Read, read, read every night Blessings, Ms. Sanders

100th day project Thursday, February 09, 2018 Dear Families, Yay for the 100th day! Your super scholar is 100 days smarter. I am so proud of how far they have come. This week we had a great celebration to celebrate the 100th day with lots of counting and sorting . Congratulations to Augie for being the kindergarten student of the month for proving that he is a lifelong learner. Augie’s enthusiasm and easy-going temperament is so refreshing and deeply appreciated. Angie collaborates with peers easily in both academic and social situations. He is very interested in reading and often brings books in to share with the class and is always eager to ask questions to learn more and more. Thanks Augie for always trying your best everyday at school! The kindergarten Valentines day party is the 13th with valentine themed free dress and please make sure you turn in the valentines mailbox. No free dress on the 14th we have mass and ash Wednesday and noon dissmissal. To the incoming kindergarten families: Sorry to inform you that the Pre-K/Kindergarten Info Night, which was scheduled on Thursday, February 15th, has been cancelled. We regret any inconvenience this may have caused you. There will be other opportunities to meet the teachers, ask questions, and prepare for the upcoming year at our future events. Please make sure you set up a testing appointment by calling our office at (510)276-6632. We will keep you updated to let you know about our next Pre-K/Kindergarten event. We appreciate your understanding. Blessings, Ms. Sanders Team Building at Olympic Day Thursday, February 2nd, 2018 Dear Families, It was so great seeing the families at open house and for seeing the kindergarten “ambassadors” give tours around the classroom. Catholic schools week has been so much fun, filled with tons of memories and bonding time. Next week will be another exciting one! We will have the 100th day of school! I am so proud of how far our scholars have come in 100 days. They have grown and learned so much from reading and addition to saying “I feel…” messages and working as a team. Make sure your superstar brings in their 100 day project on Tuesday. (Poster board with 100 items, no food or valuables) Valentine's Day celebration is coming up just around the corner! On February 13th all families are welcomed to come. Remember to help your child to create a mailbox to use for our Valentine’s day card exchange. Get creative and recycle a shoebox or large cereal box. Cover the container in decorations. Be sure to add a “slot” for cards to go inside. This is a great chance to get creative with the family! Have a great long weekend, See you on Tuesday to celebate the 100th day! Blessings, Ms. Sanders |
